Psychoanalysis and Film Festival 2013

The second edition of the Psychoanalysis and Film Festival will run 22nd to 24th November in Bucharest, at Studio Cinema.

Initiated by film critic Irina-Margareta Nistor in 2012, the Festival is the Romanian projection of the European Psychoanalytic Film Festival presided by Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci and spearheaded by psychoanalyst Andrea Sabbadini.

Andrea Sabbadini, Guest of Honor to this Festival edition, will be joining film critic and Festival Director, Irina-Margareta Nistor in presenting and analyzing titles Love Building, directed by Iulia Rugină and Seduced and Abandoned, directed by James Toback November 22nd.

James Toback’s Seduced and Abandoned will thus be premiering in Romania in the opening of the Psychoanalysis and Film Festival on November 22nd.
An exploration of cinema art, glamour, money, and death, Seduced and Abandoned features fascinating portraits of directors Bertolucci, Coppola, Polanski, Scorsese, and actors Ryan Gosling, Jessica Chastain, Berenice Bejo, and Diane Kruger. The film is directed by James Toback, Academy Award nominated for Best Writing for Bugsy, 1992, and produced by Alec Baldwin.

Further titles confirmed at this Festival edition of include:
– Fruitvale Station, directed by Ryan Coogler, awarded the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival, and winner of Un Certain Regard Avenir Prize, Cannes 2013. The film is distributed by InterComFilm.
– Like Father, Like Son, directed by Kore-eda Hirokazu, winner of the Jury Prize, Cannes 2013, screened within the Festival courtesy of Independenţa Film

All the films screened within this edition of the Festival will be followed by discussions with directors, producers, actors, film critics, and psychoanalysts.

In the closing of its second edition, Sunday, November 24th, the Psychoanalysis and Film Festival will present The Butler, directed by Lee Daniels, in a preview screening in Romania.

Starring Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey and John Cusack, the film tells the story of a White House butler who served seven American presidents over three decades. Academy Award nominated Lee Daniels (Precious, 2010) directs and Emmy award winning Danny Strong (Game Change, 2012) wrote the script. Distributed by InterComFilm, The Butler will be premiering in cinemas across Romania November 29th.

The second edition of the Psychoanalysis and Film Festival is organized by FAMart Cultural Boutique, with the support of the Romanian Filmmakers Union.
